Introduction
Hello my name is Kaylee Johnson and I am 17 years old. I spend most of my time playing volleyball, working and spending time with my family and friends. I wouldn't want to have it any other way. I live with my mom, dad and two younger sisters. We live in a small town in Southwest Ohio, that hardly anyone has ever heard of. This is my senior year at Twin Valley South High School. There I have met many true friends that I know will be by my side for my entire life. I am trying hard to enjoy every moment of this year because I know it'll be over in a blink of an eye. I am currently enrolled in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Option, where I attend high school while taking college classes. The credits I receive from Sinclair are also used to help me graduate high school. After high school I plan on attending college to be a Physical Therapist. Deciding what college to go to has been extremely hard for me. I haven't decided if I'm going to take classes in hopes of becoming a physical therapist, or just a Physical Therapist Assistant. After 2 years of being in the PSEO program, I'm hoping to be ahead and be able to finish college in less time and with a tad bit smaller bill.
I normally don't spend free time reading or writing unless I find an awesome, must read, type of book. When I was younger I loved to sit down and read a ton of chapters or write about my life just to get away from the world. I remember being so excited in my younger years to write papers in English. When I had the opportunity to write about life I loved it. Putting my life on paper always seemed relieving. Even now as a senior, writing essays is something I enjoy. I feel as if writing helps me get away from the stresses of life more than reading does. I would love to have time to sit down and write about my day, or one specific event that happened. My favorite part is being able to look back and read about important moments in my life. After taking English 1101, I want to keep spending time writing because I have began to remember how much I love to.
This semester has shown many strengths and weaknesses of my writing. High school helped me understand the basis of writing, and this college course has helped in broadening my intelligence. This English course has definitely pushed me to my limits and shown me how spending a lot of time in the books is necessary. I know for a fact I could have done a lot better in this class. Although, many of the grades I got were average, I didn't feel like I did my best on many of the assignments. I wish I would of spent more time on each assignment while planning ahead on each essay. I was impressed on how I could get my work done in a short amount of time. I was able to become very motivated when I knew I had to get it done and get it done well. I know I need to take my own advice from my Research Essay. My Research Essay, "Positive Effects", has already helped me with my high school homework. It's nice to know what is going to help me the most, while saving as much time as possible. This has been my goal for the longest time. It's hard to juggle school, sports, and a job, while still trying to study enough to get good grades. Getting good grades always seems to be my goal. Although that normally comes easy to me, I know I'm going to need to start working harder to get the grades I earn. These are a few of the top reasons that I chose the topic I did for my Research Report. When this topic first came to mind I wasn't too excited about the idea. As I began to think about it more I thought, how cool would it be to be able to educate my friends, peers, and many others to help them succeed well in school. Although it seemed like a tough topic to study, I knew it would be worth it in the end. After doing research and talking to my siblings and my parents about their struggles throughout their school years, it became more obvious that this topic was a pretty good idea. Before actually laying out my Research Project, I began with the Research Proposal. This is the first tab for my portfolio. For the proposal, I showed why I chose this topic, why it was important to me, how it would affect other people, what I feel about it, what I know about it and many more aspects of the topic. I had a hard time broadening the topic of my essay. Writing my thesis statement was one of the hardest parts, but with the help of our English book and the online resources I was able to come up with the statement I needed. I feel like one of the weaknesses of my paper was the background information. I should have found more information about the child or adult brain, how it develops and what can slow that development down.
The next two tabs of my portfolio is my Visual Analysis from this English class and The Great Gatsby essay I wrote in my High School English class. The Visual Analysis is a professional photo that has been analyzed from every perspective I could think of. This essay was one of my favorites. It gave me a chance to put what I saw, not what the rest of the world see's. I found this assignment easy for me. I feel like I did a good job at making my analysis very strong. I feel one of my weaknesses however, was not making my essay as interesting as many others. My Great Gatsby essay was an essay I wrote in the tenth grade after reading the book. Our English teacher had us read High School level books and then write an essay showing our opinion on a certain topic. I would say this essay is one of my absolute favorite ones that I wrote. It was hard to come up with a good topic at first, but it was gas on from then.
